Need a carpet, couch or mattress cleaned in Johannesburg? Send your suburb and what needs doing, and our call-back brings a price and a time. The city sits on the Highveld at about 1,753 metres, with wet summers and dry winters, and that shapes how fast a carpet dries.
Which part of Johannesburg are you in?
Greater Johannesburg has more than 500 suburbs. The City's own municipal regions are A to G, so the north, south and west groups below are our service-area groups, not official regions. We also take requests from the East Rand.
- North: Sandton, Randburg, Bryanston, Fourways and Rosebank.
- West: Roodepoort and the surrounding suburbs.
- South: Lenasia and Soweto.
- East Rand (Ekurhuleni): Bedfordview and Edenvale.

Flats, complexes and houses: what to tell us
Johannesburg homes come in three common shapes, and each one raises a different question when we call you back.
Flats and sectional-title blocks. Tell us the floor, whether there is a lift, and whether the body corporate has rules about service visits. Carpeted stairs, if any, are priced separately.
Townhouse complexes. Carpet often runs from the lounge through to bedrooms upstairs. Say how many rooms and whether the stairs are carpeted. One Johannesburg operator publishes a separate price for townhouses.
Free-standing houses. Larger carpeted areas are often priced per square metre. A rough measurement from you helps us to quote.
Summer storms and dry winters
Johannesburg's rain falls from about October to April, and thunderstorms are regular from November to March. Average relative humidity runs around 70% in February and falls to about 46% in August.
Drier outdoor air in winter can help, but indoor temperature and ventilation still decide how fast a carpet dries, and cold rooms can dry slowly. Trade guides put typical carpet drying at 6 to 12 hours, and list humid weather as one reason it stretches towards 24 hours. Fans help in any season. Open windows only when the air outside is dry.
Our advice for a storm-season booking: choose the morning, so the drying hours fall in the daytime, and tell us if a leaking roof or damp patch has already wet the carpet.
What prices have we seen in Johannesburg?
Mr Steam's list of 1 September 2026, for the Johannesburg area, is R30 a square metre for 50 to 100 square metres of fitted carpet, with a R750 minimum job charge. The Handyman Johannesburg gives R800 to R1,000 for a three-bedroom home in Johannesburg and Sandton. Each figure belongs to one operator.
The cost guide holds the sources and dates. Stairs and stains move a quote.
